OV7

Formerly known as La Onda Vaselina, 1990s Latin pop group OV7 have a career span of more than 25 years with several hits in the Latin American charts. They remain one of the most successful pop bands in the Latin pop industry.

OV7 followed a trend that began in the 1980s by another pop group named Timbiriche. In 1989, a Mexican singer and producer decided to make a different version of the musical Grease, English word for Vaselina, thus the group was formed based on the play. The band La Onda Vaselina was created.

They sold over 100,000 copies of their self-titled first album with big hit singles “Que Buen Reventon” and “Triste Es El Primer Adios.” Their second album Onda Vaselina 2 was one of the most successful albums of the 90s in Mexico with popular hits “El Calendario” and “Voy Voy Voy.” Other successful albums include Dulces Para Ti and La Banda Rock.

OV7 took a long break and then reunited with a more mature sound during their adolescence. They came out with album Hoy that was targeted for the teen market which featured alternative rock songs mixed with pop and strong texts. The album flopped and the group decided to take a long pause in which they also considered a split.

In 1998 Onda Vaselina made a huge comeback with a strong album that made history in the Mexican charts "Entrega Total." The album sent the group back to the # 1 spot not only in Mexico but the rest of Latin America. Hits for this album include “Mirame A Los Ojos” and “Un Pie Tras Otro Pie.” Their major hit was “Te Quiero Tanto Tanto” which reached number one on the Billboard Latin chart and is still played at clubs and weddings throughout Latin America.

After eight years, Onda Vaselina came together once again but under new name OV7 due to legal reasons and released their first single “Enloquéceme” and their album CD00 which was one of the greatest albums in Mexican history. They filled the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City 10 times. The album sold 2 million copies in Mexico and included the only English-speaking song “Angelica.”

In November 2002 the Group announced their split on the live television show Operacion Triunfo. OV7 had a farewell tour and officially split up on June 14, 2003.

They reunited in 2010, and as of 2016, the remaining members are Mariana Ochoa, Ari Borovoy, Érika Zaba, Lidia Avila, Oscar Schwebel, and M'Balia Marichal.

Kabah

Kabah was formed in 1992 in Mexico City by Federica Quijano and her brother Andres. Their cousin Sergio O’Farrill and friend Maria Jose joined the group later. During the 1990s, many pop groups in Mexico consisted of four members, so the siblings decided to add their longtime friends René and Daniela to bring the group to six members.

The group created a two song demo tape with songs “Encontré El Amor” (I Found Love) and “Somos Tan Differentes” (We are so different). Eager to show off their talent, they performed their two songs at a popular club but were not well received by the audience and were eventually booed off the stage.

There second opportunity to perform these two songs were for a kindergarten class where Federica worked as a teacher’s assistant. They recreated their songs to a more child friendly feel that both songs were a hit amongst the younger audience, thus marking the beginning of their careers.

Despite their hopes, however, they were initially turned down by several producers. Music producer of Televisa Luis de Llano suggested to the group that they compete in a singing talent show. After signing a contract for one album with Polygram Music, the group created their first self-titled album. They then competed and won the talent show with their first song “Encontré El Amor” which was a success among the younger population.

Their first album was such a success that Polygram Music signed them for another contract to create two more albums. Their second album, La Calle De Las Sirenas, opened many doors for Kabah and carried them to international fame. Their third album, Esperanto, sold 100,000 copies in its first week. It featured the singles “Mai, Mai,” “Una Ilusión,” and “Esperanto.” Their fourth album, XNE, was more of a conceptualized image with a darker sound. It also contained the theme song for the Mexican soap opera Amigas y Rivales.

In 2002, they returned to a lighter sound with album La Vida Que Va, which was recorded in Norway under the Warner Music label. La Vuelta al Mundo was released in 2003, and the band's final album, El Pop, was released in 2005 which featured acoustic versions of a few of their greatest-hits. They disbanded in 2005 but are now reunited and on tour with OV7.

Summerland Tour 2016 ::

Date: Wednesday August 17, 2016
Time: 7:45 PM

5th Annual Summerland Tour
Lineup and Dates Announced

Set to Feature Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit & Sponge

New York, NY – April 11, 2016 – The 5th annual Summerland Tour is proud to announce that Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit and Sponge will perform at each date of this year’s acclaimed ‘90s alternative music tour. The Summerland Tour, previously heralded by Rolling Stone as one of the "10 Hottest Summer Package Tours", kicks off on July 8th in Louisville, KY, and will include more than 25 dates throughout the US including Laredo, TX on Wednesday, August 17. For more information, please visit: http://summerlandtour.net/.

Formed in 2012 by Art Alexakis, lead guitarist and vocalist of Everclear, the Summerland Tour has featured notable nostalgic alternative rock bands such as Soul Asylum, Eve 6, Space Hog, Gin Blossoms, Marcy Playground, Live, Fuel, American HiFi, The Toadies and Filter. Tickets for Summerland Tour 2016 are set to go on sale Friday, April 15th.

With tremendous excitement towards this year’s Summerland Tour, Alexakis explains, "This is the kind of line up I've dreamed of when I started the Summerland Tour. We kicked it off with Sugar Ray for the first year, so it feels great to have band join us for the 5th Anniversary. We love Lit & Sponge and cannot wait to share the stage with them. This lineup is stacked and this summer is going to be an adventure.”

Sugar Ray (http://sugarray.com/)

Sugar Ray was groundbreaking from the get-go, including among their ranks a real live DJ – incredibly, unheard of in a rock band at that time. Kicking off with 1995’s “LEMONADE AND BROWNIES,” the Newport Beach quintet unleashed a series of albums that Mark McGrath describes as “love letters to the music we loved, with no irony just pure enthusiasm.” 1997’s “FLOORED” saw the band refine its multi-faceted sound with the assistance of GRAMMY® Award-winning producer David Kahane (Sublime, Paul McCartney, The Strokes). The album proved Sugar Ray’s popular breakthrough, earning 2x platinum certification from the RIAA, fueled in part by the #1 hit single, “Fly.”

EVERCLEAR (
http://www.everclearonline.com/)

For over two decades, Everclear's sound has reflected the rock, post-punk, and singer/songwriter influences of Art Alexakis, including acts like X, the Replacements, the Pixies, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Elvis Costello. The band found success with their first three albums on Capitol Records, Sparkle and Fade, So Much for the Afterglow, and Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile, which were all certified platinum.

Last year, Everclear released their ninth studio album titled Black Is The New Black via The End Records/ADA. Across the album, the insistent kick of drummer Sean Winchester, athletic groove of bassist Freddy Herrera, and ridiculously skilled guitar shred of Davey French join forces behind the storm of giant guitar riffs swinging mightily from song to song. A bit of tasteful keyboards from Josh Crawley add atmospheric punch to songs that could crush a tiny dive bar or destroy the cheap seats in the world’s biggest arena with equal force.

Lit (http://litband.com)

A major player throughout the post-grunge boom of the late '90s, Lit featured the combined talents of frontman A. Jay Popoff, his guitar-playing brother Jeremy, bassist Kevin Baldes, and drummer Allen Shellenberger. The group formed in 1990 in Orange County, California, where it initially performed metal-influenced music under the name Razzle. After changing their name, Lit began embracing a spunky brand of punk-pop that helped attract a local following in California. The group sold out local venues (including Club 369 in Fullerton) and issued two recordings: an EP, Five Smokin' Tracks from Lit; and the full-length Tripping the Light Fantastic, which arrived during the spring of 1997 and became a college radio hit.

Sponge (http://spongetheband.com)

Sponge has proven to be one of the Motor City's heaviest hitters after gaining international notoriety with their debut album "Rotting Piñata” (Sony). Emerging from Detroit with hits like "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles)" Sponge received massive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast and were in heavy rotation on MTV. Having shared stages the world over with Guns N’ Roses, Nickelback, Iggy Pop, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Kiss, to name just a few, Sponge continues to be one of rock’s most sought after live acts.

About Grand Funk Railroad

Grand Funk Railroad (GFR) is coming to our town to “help” us “party it down”, or so they promise in their wildly popular hit, “We’re an American Band”.

Without a doubt, Grand Funk Railroad is one of the greatest American rock n’ roll bands of all times. Since they got together in 1969, the band members have had numerous hit albums and singles.

The name Grand Funk Railroad is a play on words of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a railroad line that ran through the band's home town of Flint, Michigan. Since their music had a funky quality to it, the word “Trunk” was changed to Funk and the legendary name was born.

Grand Funk Railroad hit the festival circuit starting with a successful performance at the 1969 Atlanta Pop Festival. They soon landed a contract with Capitol Records, which included the hit “Time Machine”.
The group's commitment to touring produced a series of big-selling albums over the next few years -- five of their eight releases from 1969 to 1972 went platinum, and all the others went gold.

In 1973 the band scored a No. 1 hit with the title track of the Todd Rundgren-produced "We're an American Band”, which went to No. 1 and their first Gold Record for a single.  Their next album, "Shinin' On," contained another No. 1 hit in a remake of Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion." “Some Kind of Wonderful” reached the No.3 position in the Top 40 chart and stayed there for 12 weeks. “Heartbreaker”, “I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home”, and “Bad Time” are among the many other fan favorite songs.

In 2000, Brewer and Schacher recruited lead vocalist Max Carl of .38 Special and former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick along with keyboard player Tim Cashion.

More than 40 years later, you can still hear the music of the Grand Funk Railroad in classic rock stations around the world and utilized in movies and TV commercials. Their achievement has grown to 13 gold and 10 platinum records that have sold 25 million copies worldwide.

Empty Bowls gives Laredo and surrounding area the opportunity to experience this band live. If you have been to any of their concerts before you know what awaits you. For first timers, the band promises an unforgettable blast of live rock and roll.

Biography:

Julión Álvarez is a Mexican singer and songwriter. After his departure from the Mexican band Banda MS, he formed his own band, Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda. Today, he is one of the most renowned interpreters of regional Mexican music.

In 2014, he was selected by producer Miguel Angel Fox of Mexican talent show La Voz to participate as a coach in the show’s fourth edition. He was the winning coach of his pupil Guido Rochin. In September 2015, Álvarez' album El Aferrado was nominated at the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Banda Album. His song, El Amor De Su Vida was nominated for Best Regional Song.

Álvarez was born on April 11, 1983 and raised in the Benito Juarez municipality of Concordia Chiapas. During his childhood and adolescence he competed in several singing contests, earning the first prize place. At age 18, he enrolled in the fourth semester of Industrial Engineering. He felt this was not his passion so he moved to Mazatlan Sinaloa where he worked in restaurants.

In 2003 he joined the Mexican band Banda MS until 2006. Following the parting from the band, he formed a band called Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda. At the 26th and 27th Premio Lo Nuestro, Álvarez was nominated for Regional Mexican Male Artist of the Year.

In March 2015, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto declared Álvarez a great example for Mexican youth. Later that year, Álvarez' album El Aferado was nominated at the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Banda Album. His song, "El Amor De Su Vida" was nominated for Best Regional Song. In April 2016, Álvarez received significant criticism when he said in an interview that a woman who does not know how to mop is of no use to him.

MAGNETO

Formed in February of 1983, this boy band was a huge hit in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1986, Magneto was featured in "Siempre en Domingo," a Mexican entertainment show viewed across Latin America and parts of Europe. They produced their first record, Dejalo Que Gire, in 1984, followed by Super 6 Magneto. The Latin pop band suffered several lineup changes before achieving their first gold record in 1986.

Mostly playing dance-pop songs, the five-member ensemble started touring in Central America after climbing the top charts with "Todo Esta Muy Bien," and "Soy Un Soñador." However, their breakthrough came after issuing a Spanish-language version of Desireless' "Voyage Voyage," a French pop hit from the '80s. In 1992, the boy band played the lead in their own movie, Cambiando el Destino.

Magneto won the Lo Nuestro Award for Pop New Artist of the Year, and received two nominations for the Lo Nuestro Awards of 1993, including Pop Album (Magneto) and Pop Group of the Year. Nevertheless, the original Magneto disbanded in 1996 after a sold-out show at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional.

A number of former Magneto members reunited in 2009 and consist of the group's 1993-1996 lineup of Alan Ibarra, Mauri Stern, Elias Cervantes, Tono Beltranena, and Hugo de la Barreda, better known as Alex.

Magneto is now touring with Mercurio, another popular Mexican boy band of the 1990s.

MERCURIO

Sharing the stage with Magneto is pop act Mercurio, who formed in the mid-'90s in Puebla, Mexico. A short time after their first album came out in 1995, Mercurio became one of the most popular group of singers and dancers in their country. In 1996, the band had the opportunity to perform as Ricky Martin's opening act at Guadalajara's Plaza de Toros.  Later, Mercurio was performing along with Jeans and Kairo at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional.

"Como Decirle Que la Quiero” was Mercurio's first hit single and video. While their popularity was growing, the band traveled to Colombia and later to the Vatican to meet Pope John Paul II. Chicas Chic was released in 1997.

That year, Mercurio received the Eres' Best Pop Band Award. They received the same award again in 1998 and were also recognized as the Best Live Act. Their 1998 album Es Tiempo de Vivir was followed by a compilation released in 1999 called Fenómeno. In March 2000 Elias, Rodrigo, Alex, Adrián, and Mike started touring Central America while their record Evolución was reaching gold status in Mexico.

Don’t miss these two Mexican boy bands at the Laredo Energy Arena on Saturday, September 10. For more information, call (956) 791-9192, visit learena.com, Like the LEA on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Featured guests this year include the second Black Ranger of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Johnny Yong Bosch, the Incredible Hulk television star Lou Ferrigno, comedic actor from Nickelodeon’s TV show All That Kel Mitchell and more to be announced as the event approaches.

Lou Ferrigno

In January 2010, Lou Ferrigno® signed on with Nestlé USA, Inc., as a Spokesperson for what promises to be a funny and exciting Campaign that will be launching this year. He and his family are also currently in negotiations with TV Land for a new Reality TV project - The Incredible Ferrigno’s which will focus on “coaching” viewers on how to improve the quality of their physical and mental health. Who better than Lou Ferrigno to take on this “Incredible” task. Be sure to stay tuned for the launch of both projects!

In recent news, Lou was a guest on The Tonight Show hosted by his long-time friend and colleague, Jay Leno. You can catch a clip of the Interview on YouTube.  Lou has also recently been doing Voice Overs for cartoon characters on The Cartoon Network.

The Summer of 2009 presented a personal challenge for Lou when his long-time friend, Pop legend Michael Jackson, for whom he was a personal trainer over the past 15 years, suddenly passed away stunning both Lou and the entire World. In honor of Michael, Lou made over two-dozen television appearances, including Larry King Live, Good Morning America, The ABC Morning Show and Anderson Cooper. In recognition, Lou was credited on the recently released Michael Jackson movie “This Is It”.

In 2009, Lou played a wonderful supporting role in the DreamWorks romantic comedy “I Love You, Man” which was directed by John Hamburg (Zoolander, Along Came Poly, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers), with a cast that includes Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones. The DVD was released just a few months ago, in August, 2009.

Shortly before that Lou also appeared in, and did the voice of The Hulk, in Superhero blockbuster feature films, The Incredible Hulk, directed by Louis Leterrier, with a cast that included Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, and Robert Downey Jr. That was, of course, the squeal to  the blockbuster hit feature film Hulk, directed by Ang Lee where Lou, at the request of the filmmakers, made an honorary Cameo Appearance. He also provides the voice for the UPN animated series The Incredible Hulk, with a cast that includes Peter Strauss, Mark Hamill, Kathy Ireland, and Richard Moll.

Lou also enjoyed his Recurring Guest Star role on King of Queens, where he frequently appeared up through the shows successful 9th Season, on CBS Television Network.   Also just prior, Lou Guest Starred on the ABC Television sitcom My Wife and Kids, became the spokesman for the Sit Up-Sit Down Home Gym, and was the lead in the debut video for the band "Edgewater" for MTV.

Lou also headed first to Italy where he shot two commercials used in the International market where he has a huge fan base, and to the East coast to shoot two Longhorn Steakhouse commercials, one of which was rated as the No. 3 top commercial of the year by "Shoot Magazine."

Over the past several years Lou completed an extensive physical and academic training program and became a "Deputy" for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. At the induction ceremony, Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca introduced Lou, who spoke publicly before a packed house of other Deputy Sheriffs, their families, friends and press who were present to witness the formal "white glove" event.

In addition, Lou is regularly invited by universities, corporate executives, and numerous other major event holders to give motivational and inspiring speeches all over the world.

In addition to his film and television career, Lou recently released his autobiography, "My Incredible Life as the Hulk," which included forwards by both Stan Lee and Ang Lee.

Lou was only 21 when he won his first Mr. Universe title, a Guinness Book record that stands to this day. More incredible, at age 22 he won again - and to this day remains the only person to win consecutive titles! Lou carried the world of bodybuilding to new heights and himself to superstardom with the film documentary, Pumping Iron, which chronicled the fabled exploits of the youngest and only person to ever become Mr. Universe twice in a row! Exploding onto the film scene, with his place as a body building legend secured, Lou set out to do the same thing in film and television. In less than a year after Pumping Iron, Lou was again larger than life and created a new cult legend as the title character of the hit show The Incredible Hulk. The same hard work that crafted his six foot five inch, two hundred eighty five pound frame into a piece of human art, define him as an actor with the uncanny ability to assume characters of mythic proportions that carry a primal humanity.

Undoubtedly the discipline and resiliency that have made Lou into a bodybuilding icon lend themselves to his willingness to train as a serious theatrical actor. Lou immersed himself in the actor's theatrical experience with the help of his acting mentors, Milton Katselas, Howard Fine, and Hulk co-star Bill Bixby. The results were great theatrical notices in Texas, Canada, and Chicago (at Drury Lane Theater), for his starring role in "Arsenic and Old Lace," and starring roles in ambitious stage presentations of "Requiem for a Heavyweight" and "Of Mice and Men" - shows that toured throughout the U.S. and Canada. Lou's passionate pursuit of excellence has brought this Brooklyn-born actor more than fame and fortune; it has brought him the joy of fulfilling his life-long dreams.

Remaining true to his host of fans from the bodybuilding world, Lou starred in the sequel to Pumping Iron. And, Stand Tall is a film that documents Lou's 1994 comeback in the Masters Olympia title and his return to bodybuilding after a seventeen year retirement. Lou has starred in over twenty feature films including Cage and Cage II, All's Fair, Seven Magnificent Gladiators, and Godson. In two unforgettable performances in Hercules and The Adventures of Hercules, Lou lived a life-long dream by playing the legendary Greek hero.

All this led to an amazingly successful personal training business that includes such star clientele as Mickey Rourke, Michael Jackson, and Chuck Norris, and led him to author the book "Lou Ferrigno's Guide to Personal Power, Bodybuilding and Fitness for Everyone."

Lou continues his regular study of acting and he works out daily, all with the same passion and vigor that made him a household name and established him as one of the most sought-after entertainers in the business.

Kel Mitchell

Two-time Emmy Award-nominated Kel Mitchell stars as Double G, an impulsive and unpredictable billionaire rapper. He becomes a business partner in Babe and Kenzie’s gaming company and with their help rediscovers his love for games.

Hailing from the Windy City of Chicago, Ill., Mitchell began his acting career at a young age and won several awards for his career for the Nickelodeon breakout hits “All That” and “Kenan and Kel.” Recently, Mitchell began doing standup comedy, and is on a nationwide tour preparing for his one-hour special. Mitchell’s voiceover credits include voicing “Jay Jay” on the Nicktoon’s series Wild Grinders, and “Tiny Pea” on the cartoon series VeggieTales. Other acting credits include TRU TV’s Friends of the People, Cartoon Network’s Loiter Squad, TV One’s Love That Girl Disney’s Liv & Maddie and the Nickelodeon series Sam & Cat and The Thundermans. Mitchell has written and directed a faith-based anti-bullying film, and has also directed several music videos.

When he is not acting, writing or directing, Mitchell speaks to youth across the country encouraging them to follow their dreams. He and his wife, Asia Lee-Mitchell, were recently honored with an award from the “Carson Black Chambers of Commerce” for providing a safe program for kids to show off their creative talents in their dance variety live show, The Back House Party. Mitchell is also the spokesperson for “The Black College Expo,” which provides numerous scholarships for students throughout the year.

Johnny Yong Bosch

Bosch played Adam Parck, the second Black Power Ranger from the universe of the American television series franchise Power Rangers. He is an American actor, martial artist, voice actor and musician. After his first major role as the Black Ranger, Bosch landed roles in some martial arts television and feature films. He provides the English voices for a number of anime productions and video games, including Vash the Stampede in Trigun, Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Renton Thurston in Eureka Seven, Itsuki Koizumi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lelouch Lamperouge in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Izaya Orihara in Durarara!!, Yukio Okumura in Blue Exorcist, and Noby in Doraemon.

Bosch is the front man of the band Eyeshine. He lives in Los Angeles and does most of his voice-over work at Bang Zoom! Entertainment, Animaze, New Generation Pictures, Studiopolis, and on some occasions travels to Dallas to record shows for Funimation.

Exuberant in his performance style and prolific in his songwriting, Gabriel has penned songs in diverse styles -- rancheras, mariachis, ballads, pop and rock -- for himself as well as other Latin legends.
